Spray-On Highlights Are Back—For All The DIY Ombre You Can Handle

Before you start having heart-palpitating Sun-In flashbacks, there's a reason to be on board with this: John Frieda's new Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray won't produce scary, orange-hued hair. Really. Besides having a gradually lightening formula that uses citrus, chamomile, and a Lightening Complex to evenly change color pigments, the spray-on also contains a violet dye to combat brassy results (read: no orange hair). Best for root touch-ups, highlight brightening, or creating a sun-kissed ombre, the spray only takes 3-5 uses and the more heat applied (using a hair dryer or flat iron), the blonder your hair gets. But there's one caveat: brunettes or darker shades should still hit up the salon for professional lightening.
