A Stud Master Opens Shop In SoHo

We've been following handbag designer and jeweler Wendy Nichol 's meteoric career since she debuted her eponymous line back in 2007. Her fierce pieces—leopard print clutches, dangerously spiky studs, and furry cuffs—have always been the go-to accessories for the slightly wild set. Our only criticism? We've never had a one-stop place to get all her edgy wares—up until now, satisfying your Nichol fix meant jet-setting from Colette in Paris to Barneys to Creatures of Comfort. So color us amped that she's moved from her Crosby Street workspace to open a studio-cum-boutique that will be open...t-t-tomorrow, Junior! Part workshop part retail space, customers can stop by our fave creative block (kind of the grown-up hipster central; there's a dairy, organic restaurant, and a Mud Honey salon) and watch Nichol and her team as they handcraft the latest collections—or your very own custom handbag or cuff. Speaking of custom, the shop will carry unique pieces exclusive to the location with one-of-a kind hides and metals, while other goodies include Vietnam jungle jackets from '69, antique Moroccan silver jewelry, and a carefully curated selection of vintage clothes. Plus, downtown It Girl Audrey Reynolds will be selling her line of hand-dyed shoes and her t-shirt collab with Red Hook band Von Haze, whose vinyl album will also be available to purchase. "I'm here every day," says Nichol. "I need to set up a cot in the back"—The Park Slope Mom may as well be a Manhattanite, but for now she's trying to convince her husband to move to the empty apartment above the studio. We call first dibs on crashing on the couch.
