If you're a devout Jew, and seriously into fashion, there's no reason the two have to be mutually exclusive. Conveniently, come 2010's New York Fashion Week, Chabad of West '60s will host special high holiday services. After all, this year, NYFW begins on Rosh Hashanah, a serious Jewish conundrum that pits synagogue against apparel. Luckily, the services will be held just a stone's throw away from Lincoln Center, at the Krishna Institute. "We are offering free Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kopur tickets to anyone attending service...this year, and asking only that they use what would have spent to buy fashion to support New York's economy," said Rabbi Yehuda Lipsker of Chabad of the West 60. Plus, classes will be held throughout the holiday season to highlight the role of famous Jews in fashion. Multi-tasking indeed. And, really, what Fashion Week service would be complete without prayers for Zac Posen and Diane von Furstenberg to succeed? Yes, they really have that.
Rosh Hashanah begins September 8, 2010. Services will be held at the Drishna Institute, 37 West 65th Street (between Columbus and Central Park West) starting at sundown. For more information, click here.
